Jordan Peele’s social thrillers Get Out and Us greatly influenced my decision to take on the horror genre. In regards to comedy Undercover Brother is the most underrated comedic film of all time and is a masterwork in terms of satire. Lastly Japanese action-anime, like Naruto, Attack on Titan, and My Hero Academia, and its heightened aesthetic, including whip pans, slam zooms, and split-screen techniques embodies the style I want my films to display.
Writer-Director Desmond Jackson, is a recent MFA Directing student at Chapman University, working towards creating feature films. While living in LA, Desmond participated in the Academy Gold program and in 2020 became certified as a story analyst with The Academy. Most recently, Desmond’s award winning action-comedy short Funk Force began streaming on Amazon Prime, AfrolandTV, and KweliTV. Additionally, he received a grant from Charley production company to create a short film and has a horror short currently in several film festivals. Ultimately, Desmond hopes his films unite, inspire, and leave audiences with a nuanced understanding of the African diaspora.
