I grew up with a bluesman-actor grandfather, starting writing, short stories and poetry at an young age. I studied acting, cinema theory, and writing as an undergraduate, and then film and television production as a graduate, at NYU. For a time, I ran a boutique production house and trained in a wide array of visual arts. Finally, landing in L.A., I co-founded a black writers collective and turned my attention to television writing.
